Career Support at BUBT
Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) recognizes the significance of preparing students for the evolving job market and has established the Career Guidance Office (CGO) to lead this initiative. Through a range of professional development services, the CGO works to equip students with the tools and knowledge needed for career success. The core areas the office focuses on include:
- Personalized career counseling
- Internship coordination
- Job placement support
- Employability skill-building workshops
- Maintaining a graduate directory
- Guidance for higher education opportunities
Internship Coordination
To help students gain real-world exposure and understand workplace environments, the CGO actively supports them in finding suitable internship placements. Whether students choose to pursue opportunities on their own or request assistance, the office provides official guidance and connections with reputed organizations and financial institutions.
Application Process for Internships
The Career Guidance Office follows a structured five-step process for managing internship applications:
- Initial Collection: Three weeks before the semester begins, the Career Services team distributes Internship Intention Forms for students planning to intern.
- Forwarding Applications: Students looking for internships independently can receive official forwarding letters. Alternatively, the CGO helps prepare and forward applications on behalf of students. In this case, a minimum of three weeks is given for companies to respond.
- Employer Response: Organizations may call shortlisted students for interviews, though a call is not guaranteed. The CGO monitors responses and, if necessary, helps place students in alternative organizations. Students who receive no responses from their own efforts should inform the office promptly.
- Confirmation: Once selected, students must submit a copy of their joining letter within seven days—late submissions are not accepted. A 12-week internship period is mandatory once a placement is confirmed.
Final Steps: After confirming registration and completing payment, students must submit proof to the CGO. The department will then assign an academic supervisor (students may not choose this supervisor). At the end of the internship, grades from both academic and workplace supervisors are forwarded to the Controller of Examinations.
Support for Higher Education
Beyond job placements, BUBT is dedicated to helping graduates pursue further academic opportunities. To this end, seminars and workshops are regularly held, focusing on study options and application processes for universities in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America. Graduates of BUBT have already found success across a wide array of disciplines and countries. (For more information, students are encouraged to explore department-specific resources such as the EEE department’s webpage.)
Skill-Building Opportunities
To strengthen students’ soft and technical skills, BUBT frequently organizes intensive training programs. These may cover topics in hardware, software, and foreign languages. For instance, the Department of EEE, in collaboration with the CGO, has recently launched a Japanese language training course. This initiative aims to prepare students for opportunities to study in Japan, potentially with scholarship support.
